Premier Group sponsored $184.00 towards NZ U23 Men’s Rafting champions..
Letter from the boys
Our team of 7 are the NZ U23 Men’s Rafting champions and we have qualified to represent New Zealand at the 2017 World Rafting Champs in Japan. There are 80 countries with 700 athletes competing at this event. We plan to leave New Zealand on the 28th September 2017 and spend 3 days training on the Yoshino River prior to the worlds, which runs from the 2nd to the 9th of October 2017.
We all have a shared passion for white water and the sport of rafting. Rafting is very technical and we have to be physically strong, mentally alert and think fast as it’s a very explosive team sport.
A rafting competition consists of 4 different disciplines, and we will compete in all of these.
We have a winter ahead of us juggling school and university studies as well as training for this event. Our training involves waka ama, swimming, strength conditioning in the gym and on river training camps.
We have been really lucky to be involved in the white water community at Okere Falls, Rotorua – our base where we have had people who have mentored us with training, encouragement and knowledge.
As our skill base grows it will be a privilege for the members of our team to pass this on to the next young rafters competing at this level.
We are going all out to raise as much money as we can to help us get to the world rafting championships.
We so appreciate any support to help us get to Japan and represent NZ.
